A friend of mine makes a circular loaf of Christmas bread for each of her friends every December. She delivers these in frozen form in the weeks before Christmas and asks all of us to eat ours as part of our breakfast on Christmas morning. I enjoy this rather unique tradition.

I´m already subscribed and my favorite Holiday tradition has got to be singing carols around the tree with the whole family. It began in my childhood and we´ve continued it now with my children. I hope they don´t outgrow this or think it´s too corny in the years to come, I love it!

Favorite holiday tradition is to open one present on Christmas eve and open the rest on Christmas morning. It is a remembrance of the days of Santa.

I love putting up festive decorations around the house. It can be as simple (and cheap) as stringing up old Christmas cards or making your own ornaments.

Favorite holiday tradition is the opening of Santa gifts. We always make sure everyone, no matter what age, gets at least one Santa gift. Preserves the tradition.

My family has a lot of little traditions we love.
Mom's homemade eggnog in Dad's mustache.

Making bread on Christmas eve, the smell filling the house.

    Lasagna on Christmas day.

And a box for bowling shoes from the 70s that has held our tree's angel topper for years and years - and is given to someone each year.

We have regular American Christmas, but then everyone in my mother's family travels to PA 1st weekend in January to celebrate Orthodox Christmas. When my grandfather was alive it was huge gathering of family and friends with a pig roasting on a spit, live music (my grandparents & their Serbo-Croatian club band) and Serbian dancing. Now it's just family gathering 1x/year with cabbage rolls, pierogis, etc - putting a gift for each child on the hay under the table. It's the one time we can all be together & a way to pass on traditions to the next generations.

My favorite holiday tradition is watching a new movie (or movies) that we buy on DVD with my sister. We live in an isolated area thousands of miles from friends and family so Christmas is just the 2 of us. We love watching movies, which is one of our main hobbies, and always have a movie party on Christmas. Last year we got the Horatio Hornblower collection f 8 movies and watched them starting Christmas Eve. We love those movies so much we're going to watch them again this Christmas. (The year before last we watched the extended version of the Chronicles of Narnia.)

For our tradition, we have a memory box that is passed throught the family. It is just a box that each person is to add something every year that explaines what means the most to them and how they have shown it throught the year. Then it is gifted to another person in our family. Some things are written in poems, some are love letters, some are just memories of important things that happened to them throughout the year. Every year it is great to here and see people's response and remember what was most important to them last year or many years past.

I have done this since I was young and now I do it with both of my kids.

On Christmas Eve, we set out water for Santa's reindeer, and for Santa, we set out cookies and milk. Making the cookies and eating most of them first? That's a tradition we keep. I've helped make cookies since I was four or five years old.

Our family always plays the "Mrs. Wright" game on Christmas day. Everyone buys a gag gift and wraps it. We all sit in a big circle and my dad reads the "Mrs. Wright" story; every time the words "right" and "left" are said in the story, we all pass our gifts left or right. When the story is over, whatever prize is in your lap is yours to open.

Our Christmas family tradition started about 13 years ago . In the beginning it was just me , my husband, my daughter and maybe a couple of my husbands kids . Now it includes just about everyone we know . People all go eat wherever ,but at 2pm on Christmas day they all converse on my daughter's( has the biggest house) . We play a gift game called white elephant< poor man's swap meet, or just " the game" as it is called by us. Several small gifts (1 to 2 dollars) are wrapped and placed in a pile . Then the youngest picks a gift and from then on nothing is safe as the gifts are taken and retaken . the majority of them are gag. (toliet brush , etc), but in the mess are gifts that everyone wants (this encourages the friendly fighting over gifts). The children too young to play ( will cry if gets gift taken ,) are allowed to open a small gift chosen just for them and they get to go play or watch a movie. The rest of us go 2 rounds of gift swapping . Lots of laughter and great memories bring everyone back each year. Every Oct . I will be ask by every one , " we are playing the game this year? " My answer is yes , same time ,s ame place. Last year there were 33 people playing , not bad for a game that started with 5 or 6.

I can't decide between my favorite traditions, so I've narrowed it down to two. I hope that's okay. ;)

I love dressing my kiddos up in their new Christmas pajamas at my parent's Christmas on Christmas Eve. They are ready for Santa's visit the next morning and make the cutest pictures. Plus, we don't have to worry about waking them up to dress them when we get home. They ride home in their jammies.

My second favorite tradition is baking something new to take to our neighbors. I've done this for 12 years. We live in a rural area and don't have many neighbors, but it's just another way to reconnect and share some holiday love.

My favorite tradition is the trip to select a tree. It reminds me so much of my childhood when we had our own woods to cut a tree from. We would pick a tree weeks in advance and cut any brush from around it and mark the tree with a ribbon to make it easy to find again. Then the week before Christmas, all the children and my father would hook a small trailer to the tractor and go cut the tree and bring it back to the house. Now, of course, we go to a tree farm. Not quite the same but still fun to drive around and select your own tree and cut it down. :-)

I subscribed. A few years ago my parents decided that instead of having their kids buy them gifts they wanted us to spend the money doing service for someone else and then on Christmas give them a letter and pictures explaining what we did. This has been a wonderful tradition for our family and helps us keep the true meaning of Christmas in our hearts. We now have a book with all the things we have done over the years. It is so fun to look through and I can't wait to add to it this year.

This was the first year, but my children decided to start their own tradition. They each picked out one present that they want, and then they donated it to charity. They are starting to question Santa and why there are children that dont get anything. This is teaching them from a young age,the joy of giving, not to be selfish, and to appreciate what they do have.
  • Shay S. · 1 year ago
One of my favorite Christmas traditions is pulling out all the decorations and putting ornaments on the tree. This is usually the first thing we do to start anticipating Christmas. We blast music through the house, dance around, and reminisce about all the different ornaments and decorations and where we got each one. Each year we go out and pick out a new ornament and do a fun activity like ice skating, sledding, go look at lights, et cetera, so the memories of these little trinkets are endless!

OUr favorite tradition is putting the tree up, we make a huge ta-da over it the kids get all excited and they know once that tree goes up Santa will be coming soon. I just love to see the look in my kids eyes when we turn the lights off and the tree is all lit up, it warms my soul.

I host a Christmas Eve pajama dinner party each year. After dinner, I make everyone a cup of hot chocolate with a stick of peppermint and some of my homemade marshmallows. We take our drinks, load into cars, and drive around to look at everyone's Christmas decorations. Afterwards, all kids are ready to be tucked into bed and the grown-ups can do their Santa thing before falling into exhausted slumber themselves. The pajamas make it all cozy and casual.

Bundling up in a warm car to drive and look at Christmas lights. While driving, listen to Christmas music...singing along...until at least 2 of the 3 kiddos fall asleep. Take them home and carry them in to their warm beds.
